From its very beginning, the international and national development of artificial intelligence has been characterized by phases of great expectations and severe setbacks and always long periods for breakthroughs in applications, as is shown, for example, for Expert Systems in the figure 1. It took 20 years of scientific work and public financial support before expert systems came into application, but then they came dramatically. Similar situations could be described for speech processing in the nineties and can currently be noted for the personalized interface. |
