SIG Cognition

The special interest group SIG Cognition in the German Informatics Society (GI) connects computer science with artificial intelligence (AI) and cognitive science. Cognitive science is an interdisciplinary discipline that explores intelligence and behavior. In the cognitive paradigm, knowledge and cognition are represented by methods of AI and computer science. The assumption in this field is that there are cognitive processes that can be formally represented using methods of computer science, e.g. logic or rule based system like ACT-R or neural networks.

The SIG Cognition cooperates with the other sections within the KI department, as most of their topics have relationships to human cognition. In consequence, the workshop series AI & Cognition is carried out and organized together with other special interest groups. The SIG Cognition is in close contact with the Gesellschaft für Kognitionswissenschaft (GK) (through dual membership of most of its members in the GK). Accordingly, the GK symposia, organized by members of the FG Cognition and another discipline (such as psychology), are held at irregular intervals during the KogWis symposia.
